We often get hurt or mistreated by others during the course of our lives. Sometimes, it can be hard to move on, so we keep dwelling on what is already done. This is how we remain stuck in the past and feel helpless. When that happens, we may feel anger toward the person who has harmed us. This is when we may seek means of getting revenge on the other person. However, holding the notion of revenge in our minds and hearts is unhealthy.

“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” -Confucius.

Seeking revenge is harmful to our health and well-being. The stress from it can cause diseases like high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. This is because we end up harboring stress and negative emotions within ourselves.

When we seek revenge, we take the focus away from our own lives. Feelings of vindictiveness are not good for your happiness and peace. Precious time and energy are wasted in plotting against someone, something which leads to impaired healing since we are not concentrating on our own needs.

So, it is better to always work on ourselves so that we may be successful in our lives. No matter how much we deny it, seeking revenge on someone makes us develop feelings of guilt and remorse without even realizing it. This can also make us feel worse in the long run without realizing it. Although it feels good at the moment, the satisfaction is often short-lived.
